Professional Waxing

Waxing is a type of hair removal that eliminates hair by pulling it out from the root.  This involves laying down warm wax on the skin in the direction of the hair growth and pulling the wax against the hair growth, effectively pulling the hair out from the root.  With repeated waxes over time, the follicle becomes weakened allowing hair to grow back slower, finer, sparser, and minimizes ingrowns as compared to shaving. Maybelle Beauty Bar uses elastic wax that is suitable for sensitive skin and all skin types. Our wax does not pull or lift the skin, it adheres only to the hair. The wax we use is hypoallergenic, vegan, and cruelty free!

Pre Procedure:

Hair must be at least 1/4 inch long (size of a grain of rice) for the wax to adhere to the hair properly.  This is approximately two weeks of growth if switching from shaving.
Exfoliating 2-3 times a week with a body brush or mitten is recommended. This removes any dead skin at the surface allowing any hair that is trapped under to come out. This also prevents ingrown hair.  Exfoliating the day before your wax appointment is suggested.
Before arriving to your appointment, taking a hot shower is recommended.  This will open the pores to allow wax to pull hair out easier and faster.
Avoid sun exposure to the area that will be waxed.  Sunburned skin cannot be waxed. Avoid coming to your appointment while on your menstrual cycle or right before/ after your cycle. You are more sensitive when on your cycle.

Post Procedure:

When arriving home from your appointment rinse off with cold water.  This helps close the pores to prevent dirt, oil, or sweat from clogging hair follicles which can lead to ingrown hair.  A cold compress can be used for more sensitive areas that are prone to redness or irritation.

Please Note:

  • If irritation should occur, use an antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin to keep the area continually moist to avoid infection and scabbing.
  • No sun/tanning booths for 2 days following a waxing treatment.
    • Extra precaution should be taken if using tanning accelerators.
    • Wait 2-3 days to wax before/after tanning with accelerators.
  • No hot baths for 24 hours following a body waxing treatments
  • No abrasives for 24 hours following a waxing treatment.
  • Start exfoliating 2-3 days after getting waxed.
